While I was in Portland last week, my final stop before heading back home towards Eugene was the Wednesday Farmers Market in the park blocks. I’ve been to Portland a bunch of times, but I’ve only managed to catch one small autumn farmers market in all the years I’ve been visiting. I was pretty tickled that there was a farmers market at all on a Wednesday morning (10-2)! Typically, I’ve noticed the popular market days are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and of course Saturdays – so Wednesday? I’ll take it!
I ended up returning home with a couple of big bags of lovely and delicate shiitake mushrooms from Springwater Farm, a bunch of kale from my local farm Groundwork Organics (ha!) – no market basket is complete without a bunch of kale, and a big flat of seriously beautiful and juicy peaches from Baird Family Orchards out of Dayton, Oregon. Total scores – the peaches are the BEST I’ve had this season! Also, the Wednesday market is situated in the tree lined Shemanski Park, a block off Broadway in Downtown Portland – a reaaaaallly nice setting for a market, especially on a hot day.
Looking forward to going again!
